Netflix film crew attacked by huge sharks near Hawaii while shooting nature show: ‘Like something out of Jaws’
18/06/2023

A Netflix documentary film crew filming a Laysan albatross's maiden flight for David Attenborough’s Our Planet II encountered 15-foot Tiger sharks while floating on blow-up boats in the Pacific Ocean north of Hawaii. The sharks attacked the boats, causing them to explode, and also went after a small rubber dinghy sent out later. The crew managed to get safely ashore. According to producer/director Toby Nowlan, hungry sharks may have been trying anything they came across in the water due to lack of natural food. The incident was described as "extremely unusual" by Nowlan, with series producer Huw Cordey comparing it to something out of Jaws. The crew was unable to capture any underwater shots due to the attacks.
