AMC has enlisted a different actor to play Glenn and Maggie's son Hershel Lee on the upcoming spinoff centered around the unlikely team of Maggie and Negan.
Per , during a recent appearance at WonderCon, lead Lauren Cohan and showrunner Eli Jorné have confirmed the casting of actor Logan Kim, who has been tapped to portray the teenage Hershel Rhee. The 16-year-old actor will replace Kien Michael Spiller, who played the character during the last two seasons of Hershel was named after his maternal grandfather (Scott Wilson), who served as a mentor and father figure to the original Atlanta survivors until his death in Season 4 at the hands of David Morrissey's The Governor.
As seen in , the spinoff will feature Kim's Hershel Rhee getting kidnapped by an unknown group. Without spoiling the series, Cohen also teased fans about the identity of Hershel's kidnappers. "I don't know how much I can say. He's retrieved unlawfully by some people and kidnapped-ish, and I track these people as far as I can on my own, and that happens to be to New York City," Cohan said. "And we meet the terrible people that took him."
is created and executive produced by Jorné. In addition to Cohan reprising her role as Maggie Greene, the spinoff will also feature the return of Jeffrey Dean Morgan as the fan-favorite character of Negan. In the series finale of , a remorseful Negan had the chance to finally give a sincere apology to Maggie for brutally killing Glenn. Joining them are Gaius Charles, Željko Ivanek, Jonathan Higginbotham, Michael Anthony and more.
In the upcoming spinoff, Maggie unwillingly reunites with Negan, whom she recruits to help her in a risky rescue mission in post-apocalyptic Manhattan. In a previous interview, that the spinoff will introduce "one of the most awesome, disgusting, terrifying walkers in the history of the franchise," which will "quite possibly make you throw up."
Apart from , AMC is also currently working on other projects as part of their plans to expand the franchise. These include the series with Norman Reedus and an untitled limited drama with Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira reprising their roles as Rick Grimes and Michonne, respectfully. Cohan and Morgan opened up about the possibility of a crossover between . "I think the door is open because we are all on the same timeline," Morgan said. "They are existing at the same time. So I think there is the opportunity to bring a character from this show, a character from that show, and do something else that can continue."
is slated to debut on June 18 on AMC.
