The Untold Reason This MCU Star Was Rejected From A 'Walking Dead' Role Made Fans Shocked!

Dave Bautista desperately wanted to be a part of The Walking Dead but he didn't anticipate the huge problem with that.

Over the last couple of decades, the  has become the highest-grossing film franchise of all time. As a result, it seems pretty clear that the vast majority of people who've starred in it have reached a high in their careers.

Even though Dave Bautista has become a notable part of the MCU due to his role in the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, he is far from content to focus on that franchise alone. In fact, Bautista has been talking about  for some time now.

If Bautista truly is done with the MCU as he has suggested recently as of this writing, there is no doubt that he will find new mountains to climb. After all, Bautista has often been open about having future goals for his career.

At one point in Bautista's career, he made it very clear that one of his biggest goals was to appear in The Walking Dead. Unfortunately for Bautista, he was never able to make that goal a reality for a reason that is both obvious and hilarious.

Why Was Dave Bautista Rejected From The Walking Dead?

Now that Dave Bautista has spent many years as a movie star and wrestler, the talented performer has taken part in endless interviews. Despite that, Bautista hasn't started to take after other stars who get interviewed all the time.

When the vast majority of celebrities take part in interviews, they are charismatic enough to be mildly entertaining. However, the resulting discussions rarely reveal anything overly interesting.

On the other end of the spectrum, when Bautista gets interviewed, he often comes across as a really open guy who happens to be incredibly rich and famous. A perfect example of that is when Bautista spoke to Empire in 2021.

When most celebrities get interviewed, it seems like the last thing they want to do is reveal anything that makes them look like less of a star. When Bautista spoke to Empire, however, he was happy to reveal that he lobbied hard to appear on The Walking Dead but .

Since Bautista evidently understood he wasn't going to star in The Walking Dead, he offered the show's producers a deal that most people in the entertainment business couldn't resist.

“I’m a zombie fanI tried to get on  for years. I said I would come and play a zombie for free."

If most showrunners got the opportunity to have a major star appear in an episode, they would bend over backward to make that happen. If the deal was then sweetened by the offer to have the star appear for free, they would start salivating.

When Bautista made his offer to appear in The Walking Dead for free, however, there was something basic and hilarious that he apparently didn't consider. "But they said, ‘You’re too big!’”

Keeping in mind how huge Bautista is, it is really funny to imagine what it would be like to see a massive zombie lumbering around in the background of a Walking Dead scene.

On the bright side, Bautista eventually got his wish in a roundabout way. In 2021, Bautista starred in the  zombie heist movie, Army of the Dead.

What Is The Best Walking Dead Celebrity Cameo?

Even though Bautista's attempts at appearing in The Walking Dead totally failed, the show had some celebrity camoes over the years. For example, Jeffrey Dean Morgan's wife Hilarie Burton memorably co-starred in an episode of the show with the Negan actor.

Some other Walking Dead celebrity cameos include makeup legend Greg Nicotero and actors like Enver Gjokaj, Keisha Castle-Hughes, Chris Hardwick, and John Carroll Lynch among others.

However, it could easily be argued that one celebrity Walking Dead cameo is better than all the rest and the star didn't even intend to appear on the show.

During the sixth season of The Walking Dead, the twelfth episode is titled "Not Tomorrow Yet". When the episode aired, fans noticed a head that looked a lot like Johnny Depp. However, they had to be imagining things, right?

As it turns out, Greg Nicotero who works on The Walking Dead as a director and leads the makeup department confirmed it really was Depp's head in a way.

"I think we had sculpted an emaciated version of a dummy head for something and we used Johnny Depp's head as a basis just for a clay sculpt."
