A giant asteroid, known as 2013 WV44, bigger than ten buses lined up, is soaring towards Earth at a speed of over 26,000 miles per hour (11.8 km per second). The asteroid, about 160 metres in diameter, will fly past Earth on Wednesday at a distance of around 2.1million miles, which is close by astronomical standards.
Despite not being considered potentially hazardous to the planet, it is still being tracked by NASA as it is classified as a near-Earth object (NEO). There are over 32,000 known NEOs in our solar system, with over 10,000 larger than 460 feet in diameter, according to NASA.
