Salt Bae’s NYC burger joint suddenly closes
2023/06/15

Salt Bae Burger, the three-year-old eatery founded by Turkish butcher Nusret Gökçe, has closed its Manhattan location and will now serve its menu at Nusr-Et Steakhouse's 412 W. 15th St. address. The steakhouse is one of two New York locations for an international chain of chophouses also owned by Gökçe, who gained internet fame in 2017 for his flamboyant salt-sprinkling technique. Salt Bae Burger's menu included a $99 "golden milkshake," legal disputes over pink veggie burgers, and the signature Salt Bae Burger featuring Wagyu meat. The restaurant drew criticism for its lackluster ambiance, with one review calling it "the worst restaurant in NYC." Parent company Nusr-Et has faced lawsuits regarding sexual harassment and wage theft allegations.
