Googlers reportedly fuming over RTO crackdown: ‘Check my work, not my badge’
2023/06/15

Google employees are unhappy with the company's plan to enforce strict return-to-office requirements and track employee badge swipes. Some employees have expressed their frustration on Google's internal forum, Memegen, saying that they feel like schoolchildren. Fiona Cicconi, Google's HR boss, recently sent a memo informing employees that the company will crack down on those who do not attend the office three days a week, and managers will see data on employee badge swipes. Employees' attendance records will be reflected in individual performance reviews. Permanent remote work will only be approved for future hires on an exception-only basis. While Google said the swipe data is aggregated, some staff members feel that they're being treated unfairly. The policy has raised tensions at Google, which is currently undergoing a cost-cutting drive.
